New to WaterGnome? Here's how the direct-to-homeowner model works.
WaterGnome is a direct-to-consumer water filtration company offering professional-quality drinking water and whole-home water treatment systems without the traditional dealer markup.
Instead of building large sales commissions, showrooms, company vehicles, and installation departments into the cost of every system, we ship directly to homeowners and let you choose how your system is installed.
Better water. Smarter price.
Traditional water treatment dealers often include significant sales, marketing, installation, and overhead costs in the price of their equipment.
WaterGnome takes a simpler approach: professional-quality equipment, sold directly to you and shipped nationwide.
You pay for the system you want without paying for unnecessary dealer overhead.
Yes. WaterGnome ships systems throughout the United States.
Where available, we can also help connect you with up to three pre-qualified, licensed local plumbers who can provide installation quotes.
Choosing a System
Start with the problem you want to solve, then match it to the right system.
WaterGnome offers several residential water treatment options, including 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis, 6-Stage Alkaline Reverse Osmosis, Traditional Water Softeners, Whole-Home Salt-Free Filtration and Conditioning, and Whole-Home + Drinking Water Packages.
Our whole-home systems are available in multiple configurations so you can choose the level of filtration that makes sense for your home and water conditions.
Start with what you want to improve.
If you're mainly concerned about drinking and cooking water, an RO or alkaline RO system may be the best fit. If you want filtration throughout the entire home, a whole-home system may make more sense. If hard water is your primary concern, you may want either a traditional water softener or a salt-free conditioning system.
Our team can also help you compare your options before ordering.
Yes.
Depending on the system you select, available filtration stages may include sediment filtration, carbon block filtration, catalytic carbon, and salt-free scale-conditioning media such as FilterSorb® SP3.
Not always.
Municipal-water customers can often choose a system based on their treatment goals and their utility's published water-quality information.
Testing is more important when unusual water conditions are suspected.
Public water utilities generally publish an annual Consumer Confidence Report containing information about the water source and regulated water-quality testing.
No responsible filtration company should promise that every contaminant will be completely eliminated from every water supply.
Performance depends on the filtration technology, contaminant, concentration, incoming water chemistry, flow rate, pressure, maintenance, and system configuration.
For a specific contaminant concern, review the applicable product specifications or contact us before purchasing.
Still not sure which one to pick?
Whole-Home Filtration
Treatment for every tap, applied before water reaches your home's plumbing.
A whole-home system treats water as it enters your home before it is distributed to showers, sinks, appliances, and other plumbing fixtures.
Depending on the system configuration, it may help reduce sediment, chlorine, taste and odor, certain organic compounds, and scale formation.
It can.
Reducing chlorine and other substances in the incoming water may improve the smell and feel of water used for showering and bathing.
Actual results depend on your incoming water conditions and system configuration.
Whole-home systems containing the appropriate carbon or catalytic-carbon filtration can substantially reduce chlorine under suitable operating conditions.
No. WaterGnome systems are currently designed and sold for municipal/city-water applications.
Private well water can vary significantly and may require specialized treatment based on laboratory testing, so we do not currently offer systems for well-water applications.
All filtration equipment creates some resistance to water flow.
A properly sized and maintained system should be selected to accommodate the normal flow requirements of the household.
A noticeable pressure reduction can also occur when filters become excessively loaded or if the system is incorrectly sized or installed.
WaterGnome systems must be installed and operated within their specified pressure limits.
The homeowner and installer are responsible for verifying appropriate household water pressure and installing pressure-regulating or other protective equipment when necessary.
Damage caused by excessive pressure, pressure spikes, water hammer, freezing, or improper plumbing conditions is not considered a product defect.
Reverse Osmosis
Purified drinking and cooking water at the point of use.
Reverse osmosis uses multiple filtration stages and a specialized membrane to reduce many dissolved impurities and contaminants from drinking water.
RO can significantly improve the taste, odor, and overall quality of water used for drinking, cooking, coffee, ice, and food preparation.
The 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis system provides multi-stage filtration for clean, purified drinking water.
The 6-Stage Alkaline RO system adds an additional remineralization stage after reverse osmosis to add selected minerals back into the water and provide a smoother taste.
No filtration system removes absolutely everything from every water supply.
RO systems can reduce a broad range of dissolved substances and contaminants, but actual performance depends on the membrane, filtration stages, incoming water conditions, pressure, maintenance, and the specific substance being evaluated.
Reverse osmosis can reduce naturally occurring minerals along with other dissolved substances.
Our 6-Stage Alkaline RO includes a remineralization stage designed to add selected minerals back into the filtered water.
Gnome Knows
RO treats drinking water at the point of use. A whole-home system treats water before it enters the home's plumbing — they solve different problems and pair well together.
Water Softeners
Traditional softening versus salt-free scale prevention — they aren't the same thing.
A traditional water softener uses ion exchange and salt to remove hardness minerals such as calcium and magnesium.
A salt-free conditioning system does not remove those minerals. Instead, it is designed to help reduce their ability to form hard-water scale.
Traditional softeners require salt and regeneration. Salt-free systems generally require less ongoing maintenance.
No.
Salt-free conditioning systems do not remove calcium and magnesium the way a traditional ion-exchange water softener does.
Instead, they are designed to help reduce scale formation while allowing those minerals to remain in the water.
Gnome Knows
Salt-free scale prevention and traditional water softening are not the same thing. Only ion-exchange softening actually removes hardness minerals.
Installation
You choose how your system gets installed — including who does the work.
WaterGnome sells and ships the equipment directly to you.
Installation is normally performed by an independent local plumber.
Where available, WaterGnome can help connect you with qualified local plumbers who can provide installation quotes.
Yes.
Where available, we'll connect you with up to three pre-qualified, licensed plumbers in your area so you can compare installation options.
Installer availability varies by location.
No.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, plumbers referred by WaterGnome are independent third-party contractors and are not employees or agents of WaterGnome.
You choose which plumber, if any, you would like to hire and contract directly with them for installation.
No, unless specifically stated as part of a promotion or offer.
Keeping installation separate allows you to compare local plumbers and installation prices instead of having a large installation markup built into the price of your equipment.
Absolutely.
You are not required to use a plumber referred by WaterGnome.
A qualified plumber familiar with residential water-treatment equipment should generally be able to install the system using the supplied installation information.
Some homeowners may be comfortable installing an under-sink RO system.
Whole-home systems require modifications to your home's plumbing, so we strongly recommend using a qualified plumber and following all applicable plumbing codes and installation requirements.

Choosing a 1.5-inch connection doesn't make your existing plumbing larger — match the fitting to the pipe you already have.

Filters & Maintenance
Keep your system performing with the right filters on the right schedule.
Replacement frequency varies depending on the system, filter, household water usage, and incoming water quality.
Some filtration stages are replaced more frequently than others, while certain media may remain in service considerably longer.
WaterGnome provides a recommended replacement schedule for each system.
The WaterGnome Filter Program makes routine maintenance easier by automatically shipping the filters your system needs according to its recommended replacement schedule.
Instead of remembering which filters are due and when, the appropriate replacement kit is shipped automatically.
Not necessarily.
Different WaterGnome systems use different maintenance schedules. For example, some whole-home configurations alternate between a standard replacement kit and a more complete replacement kit containing longer-life media.
RO and alkaline RO replacement schedules may also vary depending on whether the drinking-water system is being used by itself or as part of a whole-home package.
Your enrollment details will show the applicable schedule and future charges.
No.
The Filter Program is optional unless a particular promotional offer expressly states otherwise.
You can also purchase replacement filters individually or as one-time replacement kits.
Yes.
Filter Program subscriptions can be managed through the customer subscription portal and may be cancelled according to the applicable subscription terms.
Eligible AutoShip filter purchases currently receive a discount compared with the corresponding one-time filter purchase.
Any discount and future billing amount will be displayed as part of the applicable filter plan or subscription offer.
Affirm is intended for the system purchase and does not process WaterGnome's recurring Filter Program charges.
If you purchase your system using Affirm, you may activate an eligible Filter Program separately using a supported payment card for future recurring filter shipments.
